The Dream

We like to move around. As much as we enjoy doing absolutely nothing on our days off, we are the type of people who don't like to sit still and let life pass us by. Unfortunately, this has sort of been happening lately. We are both working jobs that we have no real connection to; jobs that we keep just to pay the rent and have some beers with our friends every now and then. Neither of us are currently in school; we don't have careers, a mortgage, children. We are pretty much free...just the way we like to be! Being California natives, it is difficult to find a place to live that has as much to offer. This may sound naive and close-minded, but it's true: California is awesome, and we were made to live there. Fact: we will end up living in California again. But for now, we want to enjoy our freedom and explore all the other wonderful places in the great US of A, before we truly have to grow up and be responsible.

Let me start off by saying that we do not hate living in Nashville by any means. It's a great town with a lot to offer - fattening food, interesting characters, tons of live music, and some awesome views. However, at this point in our lives, we don't really need what this city has to offer. And although we long for the perfect weather and old friendships that are in California, there are A LOT of places we want to see while we are young enough. We'd like to reside in a few more places before we settle down back in good ol' Cali. This is how our road trip dream was born.

We are both getting antsy in Nashville and want to move somewhere new. Taylor wants to try out Denver for a bit; I've never been. I want to be in San Francisco - he's not ready for that city yet. So we compromised - let's go everywhere. Obviously we won't be able to go everywhere in one simple road trip, but this is just one of many we have planned for the future. We are hoping to find somewhere that we want to explore for longer than a few days. Even if we don't stumble upon our next city of residence, we're going to have a blast and discover more about ourselves and each other.

In it's infancy, this blog will be about preparing for this journey. We will be exploring and researching our destinations through books, internet, and word of mouth (i.e. comments from strangers we are hoping read this blog and have some awesome advice for us). It will help us to get our heads and supplies together. For the most part, many of you (our families included) won't care too much about this part...especially because it involves us putting together a list of things we will need and asking very kindly for donations :) Once we get on the road - which will hopefully be around next August - things will get much more interesting. I promise. We will be posting tons of pictures, text, and maybe even some videos. I'd like to think that I will be posting daily, but knowing us this isn't too realistic. I will promise this: we will have at lest one post - a picture at the very least - from every place we visit. This little project started out as a way too keep our families in the loop without having to be on the phone with them every day (we love you guys and wouldn't be where we are today without you, but you know how we are about talking on the phone...). My hope now is that it will become an open forum for travelers who have done or plan to do any kind of road trip through the Land of the Free (especially on a budget!). So for now, expect to learn more about who we are and how we plan to execute this trip that we are so ridiculously excited about. Again, any comments and advice are more than welcome!
